I completed my Ph.D. in Psychology and Social Behavior at the University of California, Irvine, in early 2015. My dissertation explored the nuanced relationship between political ideology, self-enhancement, and happiness. This research was published in Social Psychological and Personality Science and in Science, and it was featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Time. In both my academic and non-academic research, I mine behavioral data to answer complicated questions about human nature, with an emphasis on decision-making processes related to politics, morality, health, and well-being.

I am currently working as Sr. Data Scientist at Upworthy, a social media platform aiming to bring attention to "things that matter." In my work at Upworthy, I work with nonprofit organizations and brands to better understand and predict the behavior of millions of Upworthy visitors. This involves a broad range of research questions and methodologies, from running site-wide experiments and surveys about important issues, to analyzing users' on-site browsing behavior, to predicting the virality of social media content.
